It's been a year...

It is hard to believe we have been in our house for a year now. Last June we closed on our home here in Aldie. Time has flown by.

It has been really fun to watch, not only the neighborhood, but the area grow. We have many new restaurants and little shops. A Home Depot(Mitch was thrilled) opened up not more then 5 miles away. A large shopping center is in the beginning stages down the road.

We both pretty much lived in Centreville our entire lives, not more then a few streets over from one another. And we lived in Centreville together before and after we were married. So, this change of venue(even though we are only about 20 miles away from our old stomping ground) had been a nice change. It is funny how fast a place can become home. It feels like we have always lived here.

Happy 1 Year Anniversary to Us!

Thank you for a gorgeous house warming gift, Jaime! It really is a the truth.

Happy Birthday, Catherine!

On the day that you were born

The angels got togetherAnd decided to create a dream come true

So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold

And starlight in your eyes of blue.
Love, Mitch

Rainstorms in Northern Virginia

I think this picture says it all. Recently, we have had a ridiculous amount of thunderstorms. The kind that will knock your power out and throw down your trees. We have luckily not experienced any power outings at our house. But, a few weeks ago we went without power at my school for over 5 hours.
They come and go. There can be a torrential down pour for 20 minutes and then the sun is shining like it never happened. The picture above is of a passing storm cloud. These storms have been nasty. However, we do love watching the thunder bolts and it beats having to water the grass and watch the water bill go up.:)

Free Fallin'...

...Into the Great Wide Open

The summer concert season has started. While we only go to a selected few concerts a year, we always look forward to this time. Especially now, with Live on Belmont right down the road.
Tonight's concert-TOM PETTY and the HEARTBREAKERS with Steve Winwood at Nissan.
I spy Johnny Depp, Faye Dunaway, and Matt LeBlanc...

Humor in the "Burbs"

It is a normal evening, sitting on our comfy front porch with a few bottle of wine. The weather is gorgeous. The sounds of crickets and frogs create a soothing background. Kids are playing in the yards. Couples are walking the neighborhood. It is dusk, and we are beginning to see every star in the sky (a benefit of living further out). The ice cream truck is coming down the road. We can hear faint noises coming from the community pool. Yes, I know it does sound like a cookie cutter suburban evening, but what are you gonna do.
And...suddenly a golf cart comes driving down the road. Yes, you read right-a golf cart. We laugh and are a little curious as to why it is not on a golf course?! It pulls up to the tot lot next to our home and three young teen girls hop out and each take a seat on the three swings. One girl is left with the baby swing. No problem, she stands up in it to swing. They swing for a bit before they move on to the climbing wall, which they sit on for a bit. This goes on for about 10 minutes. Which is when a few young children and a few parents show up with their kids. The girls jump back in the golf cart and tear down the road.
Why is their a golf cart in a neighborhood? Do people buy them and keep them at their homes? I assume they are not exactly cheap, so I doubt I would let my 13-year old drive it around. Why was the tot lot their destination of choice? I think MItch and I both did our fair share of strange things when we were growing up. And I have been known to loiter at a tot lot or two. But, this was bizarre. Telling the the story does not do it justice, you had to be there to see the golf cart zoom down the road.
Perhaps, it was the second bottle of wine -but we found it hilarious.

In other news, in case you did not notice in an earlier blog. We changed the look of our house. Originally our porch was supposed to have railing. Well, like many new houses being constructed, sometimes things get lost in the paperwork. So, we left the railing off to see how we liked it. But, upon our one year inspection, we decided to have it added.
